Proof Of Print "Pop-otype" 1 - Hashing 3D Printer

Hey everyone, I’ve got my prototype up and running and wanted to stir up a little buzz before I bring it to the Heatpunk Summit.

This build uses a hashboard from a GekkoScience coffee warmer (4x BM1362AK). I designed the bed “heatsink,” did the hardware integration, and wrote the comms script that lets the 3D printer firmware (Klipper) set and control miner temperatures. I’ve also got an onboard hotspot so the whole demo can stay mobile.

Side idea: I might print a few Bitaxe stands on-site while it’s running, if anyone’s interested in a hash-powered “made while it mines” stand.

Right now I’m still working on pushing temperatures higher. It’s topping out just under 60 C at the moment and it’s slow getting there, so this will be a PLA-only demo until I’m willing to risk breaking something.

Separately, Aadhi and I are working on a larger production version using Intel BZM2 chips donated via the 256 Foundation. We’ll be open-sourcing the design per our agreement with 256F. The current plan is to crowdfund the first production run, with options to buy (based on existing open-source designs):

  • a standalone hashing heated bed,

  • a printer kit that includes the bed, or

  • a fully assembled printer

If you’re the kind of person who buys stuff without needing to know the price and wants first dibs, send me a message and I’ll add you to the list. The goal is to make it competitive with a comparable-performance kit printer, small premium for the unique mining hardware of course.

Also, if anyone knows a booth at the Vegas conference where I could do some guerrilla marketing, send them my way.
